LEADERSHIP

Pastor
Spencer Bell

Brother Spencer B. Bell has served as the Pastor of Mt. Zion Baptist Church since August of 2022. Spencer possesses a sincere passion for preaching God’s Word,
leading others into a relationship with Jesus Christ and encouraging the saints of God as he assists them in applying God’s Word to their lives.

Prior to his service as Pastor of Mt. Zion, he served as a traveling full-time evangelist for Spencer Bell Ministries, a non-profit ministry founded alongside other pastors and
businessmen who are unanimous in the desire to reach the world for Jesus Christ. Through this ministry, Spencer preached revivals, harvest days, conferences, and
international engagements, maintaining an itinerant schedule.

He has also served as the Interim Pastor of Gum Springs Baptist Church in Somerville, Alabama, and as staff
evangelist at Mt. Zion.

In addition to pastoring, Spencer serves as the President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Spencer Bell Ministries, as Moderator of the Morgan Baptist Association, as President of the Associational Minister's Conference, as Chairman of the Non-Profit Cohort for the Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce, and as a minister and friend to many in the community.

Spencer is a graduate of River City Christian Academy (High School Diploma), Calhoun Community College (Associate of Science degree in General Studies), and Athens State University (Bachelor of Arts in Religion). Furthering his education, he presently attends Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, where he is working on his Master of Divinity in Evangelism and Pastoral Ministry.

When not engaged with the responsibilities of the church, Spencer finds his pleasure in many ways, but music, woodworking, Alabama Crimson Tide Football, and eating good food are four that provide pure joy.

My vision is to continue providing an inclusive meaningful worship experience, worship God with sincerity, promote church growth as well as individual Christian growth, and provide a musical atmosphere of worship that helps set hearts and minds to receive the word of God.”

Mt. Zion is a growing community church here to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and to serve this community in his love. Our church family invites you to come be a part of our Lord’s Ministry.

HISTORY

  • Founded in May 1853, Mount Zion Baptist Church, located between the communities of Hartselle and Falkville, is one of Morgan County Alabama’s oldest churches.  Brought together “by divine grace to embrace the Lord Jesus Christ”, a small group of the county’s early settlers from the town of Falkville met in the Piney Grove community to organize the congregation.

  • Meeting first in the one-room building where the congregation was organized, the church steadily grew and in spite of two disasters - a fire in 1901 and a tornado in 1932 – continued to steadfastly bring the message of Christ’s salvation to the community.

  • Moving to its current location on Mount Zion Road in 1870, the church has grown and thrived - fulfilling its original vision to “win souls for Christ and to live to the glory of Him who hath called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light”.
